Over 60 million people in the United States suffer from chronic or seasonal allergies.  Approximately 10 million people in the United States suffer from Allergic Asthma, accounting for nearly 28 million days of missed school or work each year.

Have you ever been told that you “look tired”?

Do you wear oversized sunglasses to hide the bags under your eyes?

Do you ever have trouble catching your breath?

Does your voice always sound hoarse?

Do you feel like you are always catching a cold or cough?

Is your skin constantly itchy?

Do you have trouble sleeping at night?

Do you regularly feel ill after eating or drinking?

Many people have persistent symptoms they can’t explain or simply accept as a normal part of life, never thinking they could be allergy related. If you answered yes to one or more of the questions above, you may have allergies. Respiratory, food, and skin allergies present in many different ways through a number of seemingly unrelated symptoms. Allergies can also develop or cease throughout the course of a person’s life.

With a combined twenty years testing and diagnosing patients with chronic and seasonal allergies, the doctors at Vero ENT have realized overwhelming results and a better quality of life for those receiving treatment for allergy or asthma symptoms. Appropriate symptom management allows for long term health, not just a temporary fix. In many cases, patients who have taken over-the-counter medication for years in hopes of treating symptoms found a more suitable solution through medical or environmental intervention.

To test for allergies, Vero ENT employs two widely accepted diagnostic methods.

Skin Testing
Using the extract of common or suspected allergens, small amounts of each are placed on the inside and outside of the arms, as well as the shoulder area. The procedure lasts approximately an hour and a half during which the patient is monitored for an allergic reaction. For children and adults, skin testing is the preferred diagnostic method as it can evaluate a significant number of environmental allergens at one time.

Blood Testing

Some patients are unable to tolerate skin testing due to chronic skin conditions or other contributing circumstances. In these cases, the doctor may recommend an allergy blood test to determine the presence of environmental or food allergies. A small blood sample from the patient is examined to measure the amount of allergen-specific antibodies. The human body makes antibodies when triggered by an allergen. An increased number of these antibodies can indicate the presence of allergies.

Once the medical professionals at Vero ENT test for allergies and determine the best course of treatment through consultation, topical or systemic medications may be utilized. In addition to prescription or over-the-counter medicine regimens, Vero ENT also offers allergy treatment through immunotherapy, available in two different applications.

Patch Testing
Skin testing is performed with allergen patches to determine sources of skin sensitivity and rashes (atopic dermatitis).

Subcutaneous Immunotherapy
Allergy Injections, Sublingual tablets, and Allergy Shots

In this time-tested and proven method for treating various allergies, small injections are administered in the office, typically on a weekly basis. Over time, the antigens in the injections lessen the allergic reaction by helping the body get used to the allergen. Injections may also work in cases where allergy medication is unsuccessful in the treatment of symptoms.

The Vero ENT Allergy Center offers ample and flexible operating hours with plenty of staff on hand to accommodate even the busiest patient schedules.

Sublingual Immunotherapy
Allergy Drops, Shot Free Allergy Treatment

This contemporary treatment method typically reserved for respiratory allergy sufferers, has been performed in Europe for over twenty-five years and used commonly in the United States for more than fifteen years. As an alternative to traditional allergy shots, drops or tablets of the same antigen used in injection therapy are placed under the tongue, swallowed, and absorbed into the system through the stomach lining.

Stop living with unnecessary symptoms. Schedule a consultation with one of the physicians at Vero ENT and start a path to healthier and happier living!
